At Loren Ng Designs, we believe that every space should carry a sense of personal identity — a reflection of those who inhabit it. As a designer, I strive to balance that individuality with thoughtful function, timeless detail, and a touch of the unexpected. Here are five key insights I often return to when designing any space, inspired by our past projects.

Embrace Arches & Curves

Curves soften the visual experience of a space, making it more inviting and organic. In our Secret Garden retail project, we used fluid lines to create a sense of movement and ease. Whether it's a curved doorway or a rounded wall niche, these forms help break away from boxy rigidity and bring a fresh, contemporary elegance.

Prioritise Unique & Customised Details

Customisation allows a space to feel truly yours. At our Woodlands Office, we designed a bespoke CNC (Computer Numerical Control) - cut panel for both the ceiling and cabinetry, giving us full freedom in form and pattern. This level of design flexibility ensures each element feels intentional and distinctive — not just functional, but expressive.

Celebrate Existing Heritage Features

Not every design has to start from scratch. In our office project at 88 Club Street, we kept the existing window frames intact and highlighted them in a bold blue tone to draw visual focus. By preserving these original elements and enhancing them with colour, we created a striking focal point that balances heritage with a modern sensibility.

Think Modular & Multifunctional

Adaptability is key, especially in homes where space is precious. At 104 Holland Road residential project, we introduced a modular pull-out table in the dining area, designed for both daily routines and hosting guests. It blends seamlessly into the cabinetry, offering flexibility without compromising on style — a true example of function meeting form.

Create Flow with Open Concepts

Open layouts encourage natural light, airiness, and fluid communication. In our Embed Office project, we embraced an open-concept layout, featuring dedicated work zones, casual breakout areas, and enhanced circulation throughout the space. When carefully zoned, an open space can feel expansive yet cohesive, with each area serving its role while contributing to the overall flow.
