Limewash or Stucco Veneziano? Let’s Break It Down

Limewash is a natural, mineral-based paint made from slaked lime and water, sometimes tinted with earth pigments. It’s brushed on in thin layers and dries with a beautifully matte, chalky finish.

Technical Highlights:

  • Highly breathable.
Allows moisture to escape, preventing damp and mold. Ideal for older or porous walls.
  • Low VOC and eco-friendly.
Made from natural lime with minimal chemical emissions, safe for people and the planet.
  • Soft, tonal variation.
Creates unique, handcrafted finishes with subtle shifts in colour and texture.
  • Mineral surface only.
Must be applied to bare plaster, cement, or lime render—not over standard paint..

Where to Use:

  • Perfect for rustic homes, heritage buildings, organic interiors, or low-traffic commercial spaces.
  • Works beautifully in bedrooms, dining areas, or even feature walls where a natural, calming texture is desired.

Stucco Veneziano, also known as Venetian plaster, is a lime-based plaster mixed with fine marble dust. It’s trowelled on in multiple thin layers and burnished to achieve a smooth, polished, even glossy stone-like finish.

Technical Highlights:

  • Dense and durable when sealed with wax or resin.
Sealing makes the surface strong, water-resistant, and long-lasting.
  • Naturally mildew-resistant, great for humid or wet spaces.
Its lime base resists mildew, ideal for damp areas.
  • Requires skilled artisanship—the finish is built by hand.
It must be hand-applied by a trained artisan.

Where to Use:

  • Ideal for luxury interiors, hotels, restaurants, statement bathrooms, or entryways.
  • Great for areas where durability, elegance, and a sculptural finish matter.
